abstract

conclusions sonography is valuable method in diagnosis pneumothorax in unstable patients after invasive thoracic procedures. background ultrasound is the choice modality in the unstable patients and after performing certain procedures, such as a thoracentesis or the placement of a central venous line, which helps to rule out an iatrogenic pneumothorax. upright ap radiograph has less sensitivity in diagnosing pneumothorax in comparison with ultrasound. ct scan is more sensitive in diagnosis occult pneumothoraces but bedside ultrasound is prefferedt in unstable situations without any radiation exposure.so we aimed to compare sensitivity of sonography with ct scan in patients who are suspicious to pneumothorax after thoracentesis or the placement of a central venous line or intubatin. methods a radiologist performed bedside sonography first and then chest chestct scan was performed for 40 patients and was interpreted without knowing ultrasound results absence of lung sliding, loss of 'comet-tail artifacts and lung-point sign were assumed as sonographic criteria for diagnosis pneumothorax results the result of ct and sonography was the same in 38 case (18 case pneumothorax and 20 case without pneumothorax) 2 cases with small occult pneumothorax were not diagnosed with sonography but pneumothorax was reported at ct scan.

Diagnosis of Pneumothorax by Focused Assessment Sonography of Trauma(eFAST) and CT scan in Chest Trauma: Comparison of diagnostic accuracy

Abstract Aims and objectives: Pneumothorax is a common finding after trauma and with a wide range of clinical manifestations, from a concealed pneumothorax detectable only by a CT scan accidentally, to a potentially fatal tension pneumothorax. Pneumothorax can gradually progress to tension pneumothorax and become an emergency, consequently, a timely diagnosis is essential. Most traumatic patie...

بررسی دقت سونوگرافی بر بالین بیمار برای تشخیص پنوموتوراکس در بخش اورژانس بیمارستان حضرت رسول اکرم (ص) در سال 1387

Background: Pneumothorax may be associated with penetrating or blunt chest traumas' that need early diagnosis and treatment. Today the diagnosis modalities are CXR and CT-Scan that are not suitable for unstable patients. Chest sonography can be a fast diagnostic method at patient bedside. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of bedside ultrasonography in diagnosis of pneumotho...

Comparison of the Diagnostic Values of Four-Point and Two-point Ultrasound Versus CT Scan in Determining Pneumothorax

Background and Objectives: Pneumothorax is a life-threatening complication and the most common cause of which is trauma. Early diagnosis and treatment of Pneumothorax are very important. The aim of this study was to compare the diagnostic values of four-point and double-point ultrasound versus CT scan in determining pneumothorax in Rasul-Akram and Hafte-Tir Hospitals during the years 2015 - 201...

Chest Sonography in the Diagnosis of Pneumothorax.

BACKGROUND Few studies have assessed the utility of chest ultrasonography in the diagnosis of pneumothorax in India. METHODS Chest ultrasonography was undertaken in 126 haemodynamically stable patients, followed by a chest radiograph within 30 minutes. If pneumothorax was not seen on the chest radiograph, a non-contrast computed tomography of the thorax was performed within 3 hours. The time ...
